I'm looking to buy an RC Airplane, what do you recommend? - fastest rc airplane

My brother is interested in an RC airplane for Christmas. It's never flown, but you learn quickly. What kind of device would be good for him at a reasonable price. I'm looking for something that is good for a beginner), but also fun for him after he (the basics and not learn something slow and something he can do tricks with. Some ideas of the model and why the recommendations are useful. Thanks
